Cortes De La Frontera is a mountain village of 4000 people. Presiding over a lovely open valley framed by a spectacular backdrop of the Serrania of Ronda and the natural parks of Alcornocales and Grazalema Which have a wide variety of flora and Fauna, perfect for bird watchers and nature lovers. The town of Cortes has a long historical and cultural history. The impressive town hall built in a neoclassical style dates back to 1784, whilst the bullring, still in use dates from 1894. However the incredible natural beauty of the valley and forest with archaeological sites from the prehistoric caves and palleocristan stone house, through to Roman and Moorish remains gives testimony to its history. Not easily defended ,this lovely valley with the river Guadiaro running through it bears witness to the different civilization who discovering this lovely valley with good soil and abundant water decided to make it their home. These days there is a small foreign population, who also appreciate its beauty and tranquility. Rural tourism offers caving, walking, riding and many other outdoor pursuits.
